Villa One Tequila, co-founded by musical artist Nick Jonas and renowned international designer John Varvatos, is finally available in Canada.

Created with Master Distiller Arturo Fuentes aka “the godfather of tequila,” Villa One boasts three expressions, Silver, Reposado and Añejo, each with its own distinct and refined taste.

“I remember the first time Nick and John visited us,” said Fuentes proudly. “They were very excited and made it very clear [saying], ‘We are here because we want to make the best tequila with the best characteristics of the two main regions [of Jalisco].’”

The idea to create a tequila line together came to Jonas and Varvatos, through their combined love and appreciation for the environment they were immersed in, during a trip to Mexico in 2018. They wanted to create a spirit that celebrates ‘life as it should be,’ but what does that look like for the pair?

“Great experiences with great people is my ‘life as it should be,’” said Jonas, to which Varvatos agreed.

Through working with after Fuentes, and after many, many tequila samples and batches, Jonas and Varvatos found the flavours of ‘life as it should be’ with their three final offerings.

The Silver sits delicately on the palate, with citrus notes, and a fruity aroma. While the Resposado has a light caramel colour, with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and a caramel-flavoured after taste; it’s also the favourite of both Jonas and Varvatos. As for the amber-coloured Añejo, it features the flavours of vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate, with an extremely smooth finish.

How does Nick Jonas prefer his Villa One Tequila?

Through the process of creating Villa One, Jonas said he grew an appreciation for sipping on tequila alone to enjoy all the nuances of the flavours. While he enjoys a Spicy Margarita and a Bloody Maria using the Villa One Silver every now and again, with the following cocktails, he keeps it pretty simple to allow the flavours of the tequila to shine through.

Resposado Repurposed 

Jonas doesn’t offer a formal recipe but said he enjoys the Resposado on the rocks, with a little bit of Club Soda, and an orange wedge. We recommend the following:

2 oz Villa One Resposado

1 oz Club Soda

1 Orange Wedge

In a glass, pour Villa One Resposado over ice, add Club Soda, stir and garnish with an orange wedge. Enjoy.

Añejo Evening

With the Añejo, Jonas prefers to add a couple of drops of chocolate bitters and a splash of coffee, for his go-to after-dinner drink. We recommend the following:

2 oz Villa One Añejo

1 oz fresh coffee

Chocolate bitters

In a glass, combine Villa One Añejo, fresh coffee, and one or two drops of Chocolate Bitters. Stir and enjoy.
