In this series, we profile entrepreneurs approaching the top of their game, and ask them how they got there. This week, principal of Deux Creative, Winy Bernard exalts the virtues of the digital world.

Winy Bernard is a true multi-hyphenate of the digital age. The bilingual entrepreneur runs an agency with a digital camp for youth, hosts a podcast for creative entrepreneurs and has been a contributor to the CBC since 2016. The camp, Créateurs z, is run in partnership with CBC French in Toronto to bring French language, digital literacy, collaboration at the forefront in a creative and innovative space. In addition, to share her know-how with the world, Bernard edits a bilingual blog where she features stories about entrepreneurship, technology, travel and people.

Here, Bernard guides Bay Street Bull through a day in her life and teaches us about being of service to ourself before helping others.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Q & A” i_type=”openiconic” i_icon_openiconic=”vc-oi vc-oi-comment” i_color=”black” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ add_icon=”true” accent_color=”#606060″][vc_column_text]What do you enjoy most about the industry you’re in?

Media and digital spheres are exciting industries to be in right now because they are constantly evolving, which creates opportunities for anyone looking to create or problem solve.

Best advice you have ever been given?

It came from my grandmother – who I never got to know – but she used to say it to my mum who would tell me: “When you know who you are, no one can destabilise you. So know who you are.”

What is one trait you have, that you find has attributed to your success?

My ability to talk to just about anyone and form authentic and real relationships easily.

What is the lesson you took the longest to learn?

That you can’t be of service to anyone until you are of service to yourself first.

What makes it all worth it?

Impact. When I know that what I’m doing continues to change people’s lives for the better.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”DAILY GLIMPSE” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-search” i_color=”black” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ add_icon=”true” accent_color=”#606060″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1568228929698{margin-right: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;border-right-width: 6px !important;border-left-width: 6px !important;padding-top: 2px !important;padding-right: 18px !important;padding-bottom: 8px !important;padding-left: 18px !important;background-color: #b8dbf2 !important;}”]6AM:I wake up and read different publications online to stay on top of what’s going on in the world and in business. I would like to start my day with meditating in the morning again.

9AM-12PM: Work and respond to emails – I do a lot of business in Europe so I get messages from clients/colleagues there when their workday starts. I make a list every day of what I need to accomplish. I do so many things at the same time that if I don’t write things down, I will forget.

12PM-1PM: Hit the gym including HIIT classes, boxing and walking.

1PM-2PM: I do a lot of eating out with clients or partners, usually at lunch.

2PM-6PM: Continue to work. I spend my day in ideation, creating and executing. In June, I launched the ice (innovators, creators and entrepreneurs) podcast, which tells the stories of underrepresented cultural shifters. I book, strategise, work on partnerships and more for this project. I also have a digital camp for youth, which happens twice a year, I work on the concept, partnerships, enrolment…you name it, I do it and I love it.

6PM-9PM: Prepare dinner, eat and relax and unwind by listening to a good podcast, watching content on YouTube or Netflix. My Google calendar is my go-to, I use it to stay organized and it helps me prepare for the next day.[/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”I’D RECOMMEND” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-check-square-o” i_color=”black” add_icon=”true”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1566356748570{background-color: #e7e3ea !important;}”]
