In this series, we profile entrepreneurs approaching the top of their game, and ask them how they got there. This week, a ‘cool’ dentist you’ll look forward to everytime.

Upon stepping into the waiting room at Dr. Andrea Gelinas’ practice in Roncesvalles, Gelinas Dental Studio, it’s easy to forget where you are for a quick second. The practice is more on brand with the stores of some of today’s most successful start-ups like Glossier or the co-working spaces of The Wing.

With graceful art, bright wall paper and comfortable seating, this isn’t the stark white waiting room of yesteryear with well-thumbed magazines dated July 2013 or dated furniture. The design carries through with the vision of the company, which looks to do dentistry a little differently. For example, Dr. Gelinas’ favourite products are featured in a curated shop, available for patients to peruse at their pleasure. The practice’s mission is two-fold: to bring a sense of beauty to the health industry and to help those who suffer from dental anxiety.

Here, the successful Canadian entrepreneur (and new mom) discusses her long-term goals, the benefits of vegan lunches and her current favourite Netflix comedy special.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”13369″ img_size=”full”][vc_single_image image=”13367″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Q & A” i_type=”openiconic” i_icon_openiconic=”vc-oi vc-oi-comment” i_color=”black” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ add_icon=”true” accent_color=”#606060″][vc_column_text]What do you enjoy most about the industry you’re in?

I love that I can give patients the confidence to smile.

Best advice you have ever been given?

This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Who are your some of your role models?

My father. He is my CFO and has taught me so much about this business.

How do you balance your work and personal lives?

I don’t have that much balance right now! My son is 18 months old and my business is just over two years old. Within the last few months, I’ve started to carve out time for myself and it feels really good!

What is the lesson you took the longest to learn?

To trust myself.

What long term goals do you have?

I think about this a lot. I would love to provide comprehensive care with a team of specialists. A shift from reactive dentistry and further educating patients on the benefits of long term thorough care. I feel that is lacking in the industry. I daydream about a second office, collaborating with a brand on making a toothpaste, whitening system and mentoring younger female dentists.  [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”DAILY GLIMPSE” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-search” i_color=”black” color=”custom” border_width=”2″ add_icon=”true” accent_color=”#606060″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1568230318791{margin-right: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;border-right-width: 6px !important;border-left-width: 6px !important;padding-top: 2px !important;padding-right: 18px !important;padding-bottom: 8px !important;padding-left: 18px !important;background-color: #b8dbf2 !important;}”]

7.30AM- 9AM: Coffee, shower, The Daily. I can’t live without coffee. When my son Nico wakes up, he has my undivided attention until we leave for daycare. We always have breakfast together, that’s important to me. I would love to workout in the morning. I had a shower installed in the office with that intention.

10AM- 7PM: Most of my day is spent seeing patients back to back. I always spend my lunch hour meeting with my front of house team to stay organized. These days with daycare pick up I really stay organized and on time because my departure from the office is quick and swift! I check in with myself a lot. It’s so important to prioritize and delegate otherwise the focus sways which isn’t productive or efficient.

I usually try to eat vegan at lunch. Generally a smoothie, soup or sandwich from The Goods on Roncesvalles. It makes me feel good knowing I’m getting all those fresh veggies in.

8PM-10PM: I always review my to do list the night before so I don’t go to bed with a million things on my mind. I recently started doing breathing exercises, even for a few minutes. It really helps.

Dinner I leave to whatever my husband wants to cook. I rarely do any of the cooking! I absolutely prefer meals with friends and family. We finished our house renovation before Nico was born and I LOVE being at home in our space. [/vc_column_text][vc_text_separator title=”I’D RECOMMEND” i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-check-square-o” i_color=”black” add_icon=”true”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1568233899943{background-color: #e7e3ea !important;}”][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
