On the days when she’s not being nominated for a Golden Globe, Annie Murphy is just like the rest of us. She enjoys a glass of red wine, she keeps in touch with friends and family, and she combines her love of both when playing her Nintendo Switch.

As the face of Nintendo’s latest campaign, Murphy shows the world how she spends her perfect rainy day. Between getting active with the Ring Fit, competing with—and losing to—her mom (yes, her real mom!) in virtual board games, and putting on a performance with Just Dance, who needs to go outside?

The parallels of being stuck at home due to a rainy day and the realities of being stuck at home due to COVID-19 can’t be missed.

“I loved the premise of the video because I feel like we’ve been living one big rainy day for the last 10 months,” said Murphy. “Having my Nintendo Switch has honestly provided me with so much entertainment.”

While joining in on a virtual media session to talk about the new partnership, Murphy said she grew up without siblings or a Nintendo, but always tried to sleepover at her cousins’ house because they had the coveted gaming console.

Although she admitted to being new to the gaming world, she said Nintendo Switch’s ease of use made it easy to quickly pick up skills.

The three-in-one console allows a user to play games however they feel: handheld mode, tabletop mode, or TV mode. Coupled with the ability to play against other users no matter the distance, and Nintendo Switch is more than a game, it’s a form of connection.

Murphy’s favourite way to connect? Just Dance. She likened the joy from witnessing her friends’ lack of coordination to a night out at a karaoke bar—people failing miserably, but all in good fun.

She also said she believes the dance-themed game would be a favourite of her beloved Schitt’s Creek character, Alexis Rose.

“I think we would be playing it for very, very different reasons,” laughed Murphy. “I’m playing it to have a good laugh at myself and at my friends, but I think Alexis would be playing it to demonstrate her incredible choreography, her incredible rhythm, her massive dance talent…and I don’t think many other people would get a turn.”

And while Alexis Rose may not be up for competition, Murphy is tinkering with the idea of bringing up some friendly rivalries between herself and her former Schitt’s Creek castmates. Since the close-knit bunch is all spread across the globe now, she said Nintendo Switch will offer a great way to bring them together.

In the meantime, Murphy said she’s been sharing her new love of gaming with her friend from theatre school, Antoine. You can even the two of them facing off on the notorious Rainbow Road in the commercial!

Given that she highlights both her mom and close friend in the campaign video, it’s easy to say that Murphy is the type of person we’d want on our team, no matter what game we’re playing. She’s the perfect face for Nintendo’s new campaign: fun, hilarious, and loves a little bit of competition.

As for what’s next for Annie Murphy, she’s currently in Boston filming the new AMC series, “Kevin Can F— Himself.” And though she’s away from her Canadian friends and family, you can bet that she’s staying in touch with her Nintendo Switch.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][yikes-mailchimp form=”1″ title=”1″ submit=”SUBSCRIBE”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
