A stay at Club InterContinental is not a vacation. Although it can be if you want it to, with a deluxe spa, salt water pool and close proximity to many Toronto attractions.

But, because the Club is frequented and custom-designed for high-level executives, you might feel as if you haven’t left the office building.

When we visited after work on a Friday, talk of the day’s stock market blips dominated the friendly chatter between tables during evening hors d’oeuvres, while guests feasted on an assortment of flatbreads and spreads.

In the hallways or the elegant Club Lounge, you’re more than likely to run into someone you’ve met at a previous work conference or finally get a chance to chat with that C-suite executive you’ve always admired.

Although suited for leisure guests as well, staying at hotels like InterContinental Toronto Centre – where arrangements are made with business travellers in mind – will take the strain out of a work trip. You can grab a quick bite, enjoy privacy or relax between meetings with the knowledge that the boardroom is only steps away.

The Club Intercontinental is spread across three floors that are navigable through a private staircase, in addition to the general elevators, which lead to the 91 guest rooms and suites. The lowest floor of the Club houses the lounge where the continental breakfast, afternoon and evening hors d’oeuvres are served, and the reception for a more private check-in and check-out experience.

Rooms are a plush oasis for guests with sleek decor and panoramic views of the skyline. When the rooms at Club InterContinental were renovated earlier this year, careful thought was given to the colours and fabrics chosen, with rich dark wood paired with gold, purple and blue accents to remind guests of the comforts of home, while still evoking luxury.

Club InterContinental is a mental vacation from the stresses of travel and decision fatigue. For Club guests the experience is like a “hotel within a hotel” with private amenities including a library, premium refreshments, garment pressing and the ability to book a boardroom.

The hotel is located a literal three minute walk from the CN Tower, and its only a few more minutes to walk anywhere else in the downtown core. But, if you don’t feel like walking, there’s also the complimentary limousine ride within the downtown core (just ask the private reception on the Club floor).
