Isaac No 1289 is the fusing of processes involved in perfumery and aging cognac to create signature scents.
“While making the candles, I had been looking at the process involved in aging
cognac,” says Ishac of his decision to age his scents in wood instead of air tight glass. After testing hundreds of combinations of fragrances, he found the combination he was looking for. “The components were blending in a unique way and were pulling notes from the wood,” he adds.
The next step in creating the experiencing he wanted to share was in the packaging. Each candle comes in a carefully assembled box with a scent-infused wax seal, along with a thank you note containing instructions with a personal tone. Ishac wants you to experience attention to detail at every step in the process.
The genesis of Isaac No 1289 started much closer to his vocation. “I’m a barber,” says Ishac, “and I noticed a massive void in natural men’s care products. I initially started with oils. My thing was going to be beard oils.” As he started to envision who he was creating for, he realized that he wanted to begin with a product that went beyond men committed to taking care of their facial hair.
Speaking on the decision to begin with candles, he paints a picture of the experience he is aiming to offer customers: “I imagine somebody at home in their work space, just creating. It’s dark and they light the candle. They have set an atmosphere for creativity and for romance.”
Isaac No 1289 is released in seasonal limited edition drops. For the December holidays, it was vanilla smoke. For Valentines Day, pomegranate rose. For summer, it will be along the lines of pineapple smoke.
The next item from Isaac No 1289 will be a facial oil (for use whether you are bearded or not), which promises to have an inspired level of care and attention to many tiny details.
