Jordan Searle, President Of Ecco Shoes Canada, Commutes for 40 minutes everyday

A lot needs to get done in one day. 'A day in the life' follows some of the world's most innovative leaders, and details how they manage everything from exercise to employee relationships.

2:30 p.m. Sometimes I’ll do market visits to our store, to see how employees are being trained, to chat with managers and store associates. I like to see what’s happening from a commercial perspective, in the places where we’re operating. I go to our Yorkdale store quite a lot because it’s our flagship. 5:30 p.m. I drive home because I live in Toronto—the commute is about 40 minutes. 6:15 p.m. I have two children, one is two and we also have a 12-week-old, so everyone kind of fends for themself. (Sleep has become a huge thing of value in our household right now.) Usually my wife is already eating when I get home, so I spend some time with the kids, help her put them to bed. 7:30 p.m. By this time, I’ve had some dinner, which is again very vegetable heavy, and then I do some gardening outside. We’ve started growing some vegetables in our backyard for the kids. Once I’m done that, I go inside and do some reading. I have a Kindle, so I usually buy books off of Amazon. Right now I’m reading this book called Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. 10:00 p.m. I’m usually asleep by 10:30 p.m. every night.
