Cocktail of the week: To the Moon and Black

This twist on the world's most popular spirit will blow you away.

Written by Sammy Abdo

Did you know October 4 was national vodka day? The sheer number of vodka spirits can be overwhelming, but Hounds Vodka chooses to be unique in its product: it is the only Canadian brand producing black vodka. The Waterloo-based company produces a smooth premium vodka that has a slightly sweet, very velvety feel. The colour is a result of the fulvic minerals and humic acid infusion (with a bit of colouring). This recipe, called "To the Moon and Black," certainly fills every part of the October atmosphere with its name and dark, fruity taste.

Ingredients

1.5 oz Hounds Vodka 0.75 oz Crème de cassis 1.5 oz fresh squeezed lime juice 0.75 oz simple syrup

Directions

Stir all ingredients over ice in a mixing glass until chilled. Strain over fresh ice in a double old fashioned glass Garnish with fresh blackberries.
